Five Random Things

Bored this afternoon and felt like writing something, so I turn to the trusty writing prompts. Today I found one suggesting I write five random facts about myself, but I've already posted something like that. Instead, I'd like to write about five random achievements, smaller things I never really thought I'd do.

1. White water rafting (pictured above)

I did it for the first time in 2002 while I was at summer camp. It seemed pretty scary at first, but I had a counsellor with me and once we got past the first set of rapids, it was a blast! I even met my family, randomly, on the way out, while they were going on a tamer excursion.

2. Joined a couple junior high school sports teams

"Joined" is a bit of an exaggeration. My 8th Grade home room teacher and aide were the coaches of the boy's basketball and three-pitch teams, and I was made assistant coach of both instead of having to play those sports in Gym class. I went to the same practices, the same competitions, and had to memorize all the rules.

3. Fired a gun

It was my Dad's pellet gun, shooting at cans and targets at our family's cabin. To compensate for my short arms and lack of coordination, we've come up with the idea of sitting on a chair or stump, and resting the gun on another stump/chair to aim and fire properly.

 4. Successfully used a bottle opener

Took a couple tries and only a small amount of spillage, but I've gotten quite adept at this.

5. Climbed to the top of a canyon

It was the Barren Canyon, during the one, brief, sunny moment in a bitter-cold weekend of camping in Algonquin Park. My Dad helped me, but not as much as either of us thought he'd have to.

Cheers!
