Freedom

This weekend, the City of Ottawa went into a state of emergency because of the continuing trucker protests at Parliament Hill.

Protesters are calling this a Freedom Convoy. Ironic, in my opinion, because they've basically brought a city to a halt, after a month-long Omicron-related shutdown, and screwed everyone else out of their freedoms. In Ottawa's downtown core, businesses are being closed, people are scared, and I just read an article about disabled residents worried about a lack of access to home care if the protests and road closures continue.

I'm all for people's right to protest, and I even agree with a few of this protest's earliest, basic beefs, but I don't agree with citizens essentially being held hostage because someone doesn't want to get a vaccine. Nor do I agree with professional protesters and white supremacists who think it's alright to desecrate statues, piss all over monuments, and harass minorities.

Ottawa's police seem to be more proactive as of late, and GoFundMe is putting a hold on the money raised for the protest, so there's a little bit of hope, but with protesters pulling into other cities and international support for the convoy, this doesn't look like it'll end any time soon.

Hoping for the continued safety of any and all people negatively impacted by such stupidity.

Cheers
