Earlier this afternoon, my parents came back from a trip to the storage shed we rented just before moving to the city. Before they left, I asked if they could bring me back one of the numerous boxes of books I had packed away and forgot about.
"Forgot" is the optimal word, here because the contents of this box ranged from old to ancient!
Chronologically, the "youngest" item was an art book on drawing fantasy creatures that I got for monster-creating inspiration while in Scriptwriting. Then, there were a few random novels and books I purchased at Algonquin College's book store during my first year of college, likely as a means to avoid social interaction with classmates I was too nervous to talk to at the time.
A little further back on the timeline I found a binder for a Youth Ambassador/Advocacy program, from when I was a part of Leaders of Tomorrow, I'm guessing.
From the mid-90's, a Spider-Man novel and Batman Forever behind-the-scenes magazine represented my early love of comic books. Also, Anne McCaffrey's "A Diversity of Dragons" which I've got no explanation for.
Now, we get down to the "ancient" items.
Those include "The Adventures of Sir Willoughby" a children's book about a dragon, written by an Ottawa based author. Signed and dated 1992, so my parents must have taken me to meet him. Also a colouring book, complete with my own "Rors" in marker.
From what I assume was a Scholastic book fair held at some point during my time at Winchester Public School were a dinosaur atlas and an Eyewitness Book about Prehistoric Life.
I found a hardcover collection of old Nintendo comics (Mario World, Legend of Zelda, Captain N the Game Master, and Metroid), a Christmas gift from around 1991.
In a league all on it's own, because it's so special and because it defies what I'm calling ancient here, is Out of This World, a book about paranormal stuff from 1978. I know it's from my Papa Perkins, though I can't remember if he gave it to me himself or if I asked my Nanny if I could have it. Either way, it's not going anywhere!
A very fun afternoon reading and digging through some memories. Now to figure out where to put some of this stuff...
Cheers!
