Bring On Hal-Con

After a rather arduous process (thanks for the help Dad), tickets are booked for Hal-Con this Fall.

My first comic convention in five long years!

Going with my Father. Really looking forward to meeting Timothy Zahn, author of the Thrawn Trilogy and other Star Wars books! (glad I decided to keep a copy of Outbound Flight)

Also looking forward to fried clams and some family visits while I'm down there.

Fingers being crossed for good weather and good health.

Cheers!

Breaking the Routine

As part of a Public Service week, a pizza/doughnut lunch was held at work this afternoon. I was invited by my manager yesterday and initially considered not attending, having had homecare booked for Wednesday afternoons.

I hummed and hawed internally for a few minutes, then went "the heck with it!", cancelled homecare, rescheduled Para Transpo for pick-ups this morning and afternoon instead of Thursday, and accepted the invitation.

Lunch was good, even though the pizza was not. Green olives, onion, and bacon are a very questionable combination.

Instead, I grabbed a nice pretzel bun, some charcuterie bits, and hummus to make a decent little sandwich, with melon, some kind of amazing doughnut (frosting and graham bits, so s'mores maybe??), and a ginger ale. Snuck a cookie on the way out later on.

And as a bonus, I got to meet my new manager in person.

The weather could've been nicer and the ride home was a little crazy, but all in all a nice deviation from the same old, same old.

Cheers!

Old Treasures

Earlier this afternoon, my parents came back from a trip to the storage shed we rented just before moving to the city. Before they left, I asked if they could bring me back one of the numerous boxes of books I had packed away and forgot about.

"Forgot" is the optimal word, here because the contents of this box ranged from old to ancient!

Chronologically, the "youngest" item was an art book on drawing fantasy creatures that I got for monster-creating inspiration while in Scriptwriting. Then, there were a few random novels and books I purchased at Algonquin College's book store during my first year of college, likely as a means to avoid social interaction with classmates I was too nervous to talk to at the time.

A little further back on the timeline I found a binder for a Youth Ambassador/Advocacy program, from when I was a part of Leaders of Tomorrow, I'm guessing.

From the mid-90's, a Spider-Man novel and Batman Forever behind-the-scenes magazine represented my early love of comic books. Also, Anne McCaffrey's "A Diversity of Dragons" which I've got no explanation for.

Now, we get down to the "ancient" items.

Those include "The Adventures of Sir Willoughby" a children's book about a dragon, written by an Ottawa based author. Signed and dated 1992, so my parents must have taken me to meet him. Also a colouring book, complete with my own "Rors" in marker.

From what I assume was a Scholastic book fair held at some point during my time at Winchester Public School were a dinosaur atlas and an Eyewitness Book about Prehistoric Life.

I found a hardcover collection of old Nintendo comics (Mario World, Legend of Zelda, Captain N the Game Master, and Metroid), a Christmas gift from around 1991.

In a league all on it's own, because it's so special and because it defies what I'm calling ancient here, is Out of This World, a book about paranormal stuff from 1978. I know it's from my Papa Perkins, though I can't remember if he gave it to me himself or if I asked my Nanny if I could have it. Either way, it's not going anywhere!

A very fun afternoon reading and digging through some memories. Now to figure out where to put some of this stuff...

Cheers!

Five Years Employed

Major milestone!

Yesterday marked five years since I successfully interviewed for a job with the Government of Canada, scoring my first ever paid work.

Hard to believe (sort of).

In that time there's been a few "downs", but thankfully it's been mostly "ups". Like Ottawa's Ribfest happening right outside my current place of employment, for a good example.

Glad I chose to switch to/stick with LiveWorkPlay for employment supports. Past help was great and appreciated, but results speak for themselves.

Cheers!
